Welcome to the Racontour Archive

Saluting the local vocal focal points

The Racontour Archive is a living testament to the wonderful stories of Ireland. These stories have been collected on a whole host of topics since 2008.  They are now brought to you in bite-sized audio clips on the Audioboom platform over two collections. In total, there are hundreds of audio clips on a whole range of topics from Irish heritage, culture and travel. The first collection is for 2008-2019 and the second is for 2020 onwards.

Our audio content has a richness and a variety in both angle and tenor. Every locality has a host of unique stories from the local characters and eye-witnesses. What are the great stories from your community?

Compelling stories

The Racontour Archive is not confined to one region. The stories in it come from the very tip of Malin Head right down to Youghal. Some stories are scripted, but plenty are conversational. Unfortunately, several of our favourite voices have left us since being recorded. This emphasises one of the core beliefs of Racontour – the need to preserve voices for posterity. In turn, these storytellers serve as timeless ambassadors for the listener wanting to come to a locality.

Using Audioboom allows all of these stories to be played on your favourite podcast platform. In addition, we have turned all of our playlists into dedicated Spotify playlists for ease of reference. An extra bonus is that several of them are interspersed with the addition of local tunes.

Recommending the Halloween Archive

‘A nice dip into the cauldron of the other world for the night that’s in it…and for anyone looking for well researched info on Irish lore and customs in general, this is THE site. Years of painstaking work by John Ward, originally from Donegal, now available online for all in what is a real labour of love and an unmatched resource. Proceed with caution, you can really get lost in this…’

Enter the Racontour Archive Two collections, numerous tales

2008-2019 Archive

The first collection in the Racontour Archive covers the years 2008-2019. In 2022 we plan to populate and categorise the wealth of material already recorded here. Once done, you can then play for free on your preferred listening platform. We are allowed to place 1000 clips in this archive and will be able to reach this in time. In doing so, we are ensuring that the hundreds of audio clips used are remixed and compatible with Spotify’s LUFF loudness level. Simply scroll down through the list to hear the material or else click on the headline link above.

2020-2030 Archive

Our second collection in the Racontour Archive covers the years 2020-onwards. Like the first collection, all will then be available for you to play for free on your preferred listening platform. We’re excited about the range of material to be added including the completion of our cross-quarter days project with the inclusion of Lughnasa.  In doing so, we are ensuring that the hundreds of audio clips used are remixed and compatible with Spotify’s LUFF loudness level.
